Biography
Kirby
graduated from the University of Victoria with a degree in Geography,
specializing in Outdoor Recreation Planning and Resource Management. He
has been involved in paddle sports all of his adult life starting with
canoeing then whitewater canoeing and eventually kayaking, both
whitewater and touring. Also served on many club executives and started
the Sea Kayak Program and the Victoria Canoe and Kayak Club, provincial
executive of the Whitewater Association of British Columbia. During the
last ten years he lectured and taught sea kayak safety specializing in
family kayaking at the West Coast Kayak Symposium. In 1997 he started a
consulting company specializing in recreational planning and outdoor
opportunities that also publishes, distributes and designs recreational
maps for marine areas along the coastline of British Columbia and Baja
California. When Kirby is not out exploring the coastline or behind his
computer you will find him attending one of the many paddling events
around the country.
