Bahia de Los Angeles is a small Mexican settlement on the eastern shore of Baja and well off the beaten path. Unlike other settlements off Highway 1 the road leading into the Bahia de Los Angeles is paved, 67 km southeast of the Transpeninsular Highway. The area also has a paved the airstrip although no commercial flights land here along with all the amenities you might need. The region is also renown for it’s spectacular desert and marine life with several species endemic only to this area. Just before you reach the coast the road begins to open up with glimpses of the Sea of Cortes, then you will come upon one of the most spectacular vistas in Baja, well worth stopping to take in the majestic grandeur of the area taking in the surrounding mountains, desert, islands and the colours of the Sea of Cortes. This protected bay with over 14 islands has become a haven for sea kayakers and fisherman alike. Bahia de Los Angeles has some spectacular beaches not far from town, the more popular ones situated north or south of town with easy access. Bahia de los Angeles is ideal for trekkers wanting to experience a true adventure without too much risk.
Bahia de las Animas called the “Bay of Souls” situated south of Bahia de Los Angeles at the end of a very long bumpy road. This region is completely natural and lacks any development, most likely due to the road conditions one has to go through. Once there one is truly taken back by this area, it is also truly spectacular with towering mountains that seem to almost reach the sky over looking the crystal clear azure waters of the Sea of Cortes. Once you reach the coast you find almost never ending stretches of sandy beaches all just waiting to be explored that only the brave souls have ventured.
