This map covers two distinctive waters situated within the lower mainland. Howe Sound, considered the gateway to the Sunshine Coast is well known on it’s own a popular recreation area. Bowen Island a short 20 minute ferry ride from Horseshoe Bay has excellent opportunities for hiking and sea kayaking. To the north is Gambier Island less developed than it’s counterpart to the south (Bowen Island) and accessible only by boat. There are several parks situated within Howe Sound including Halken Bay, Crippen, Apodaca, and Plumpers Cove all very popular with visitors. The Paisley Island in the south is one of the more popular boating destinations, provide a haven for wildlife of all kinds.
Indian Arm can be described as a long narrow fjord north of Burrard Inlet. It is one of the best sea kayaking locations in the lower mainland and is known for it’s waterfalls, small islands and coastal forests. Indian Arm is truly a spectacular wilderness, nestled on the outskirts of a large metropolitan city this area can still keep is wilderness charm.
